This was another book cover illustration for New Riders Publishing. For me, it was also an exerise in seeing just how much detail I could squeeze into a single image.

This image is considerably more stiff than I would have liked. I spent too much time on the objects and materials and not enough on composing the scene and posing the character.

Eventually, I’ll animate this guy traversing a river in the forest with, in addition to his unwieldly pack, a lemur sitting on his head and, in toddler-fashion, playfully obscuring his vision. It should be a hoot.
